NLP CD’s Can Break Your Nail Biting Compulsion Posted By : Alan B. Densky, CH

Filed under: Depression — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

If you have ever endeavored to stop your nail biting habit, you are aware of just how hard it can be. Perhaps you have worn bandages or gloves over your fingertips, or tried bitter nail polish. Likely they worked temporarily, but ultimately you found yourself with chewed-up nails and torn cuticles yet again.

The reason that a superficial nail biting cure is unlikely to get results makes sense when the reason behind the behavior is understood. The nail biting habit is inveterate and very similar in nature to other stress-related manners, such as skin picking and hair pulling. Fundamentally, these actions satisfy an inherent inclination; thus if the urge is not satiated or eliminated, the behavior will start again. No amount of bitter nail polish will curb the need for nail biting or give the sense of relaxation you have after chewing on your nails.

In that vein, a person cannot actually cure nail biting, but do not despair: Happily, time-tested treatments that can support recovery are available. There is a three-step treatment that can successfully stop nail biting if you are committed to do so. The primary step involves hypnosis.

For those unfamiliar, hypnosis brings to mind pictures of people watching swinging pendulums or barking on stage for others’ entertainment. Rest assured that at its base, hypnosis is simply profound relaxation in a trance-like state. Some people mistakenly believe that hypnotic trances are like sleep, but you are fully conscious and awake, simply very relaxed and amenable to suggestion.

In fact, most of people are subject to some manner of self-hypnosis every day, during times when we disregard many of the distractions around us to concentrate on an individual task while staying fully conscious. It happens naturally while we read, watch television or daydream.

Because nail biting is stress related, the more fully you can work through and release anxiety and tension, the more winning your commitment to stop nail biting will be. The basic purpose of hypnotherapy is to help you to preserve a state of relaxation always.

You are encouraged to try many different hypnosis techniques, such as traditional hypnosis, Ericksonian hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques, to boost both the state of relaxation and to realize a more complete sense of welfare. A qualified hypnotherapist can tell which method is ultimately best for you.

The following step to curbing a nail biting problem is to become sentient of the behavior since nail biting is executed unconsciously. Hypnotherapy is useful for this part of the plan, as connecting with the unconscious mind to trigger the conscious mind’s knowledge that you are going to bite your nails can help significantly. This allows you to make the decision to bite your nails or not. And because hypnotherapy has previously worked to relieve the causal stress, the significant impulse to bite your nails has been greatly reduced, or even removed.

The final action for using hypnotherapy to discontinue biting nails is to fully eliminate the underlying wish to bite or chew. There are practices that can literally program you with an urge to give up biting your nails, because just as practices can be effectively quelled thanks to hypnosis, they can be established.

Hypnotherapy is valuable for restricting behaviors like biting your nails because, though the treatment will not suddenly create complete self-control, it can reinforce your resolve and guarantee that choices you make during a relaxed state will still remain when you are agitated. Additionally, hypnotherapy can help you commune with your unconscious mind to get it to mirror your conscious mind so both units support your aspiration.

It is important to note that some potential hypnosis clients hold a fear of having suggestions planted or of recalling “hidden” memories during a trance. Rest assured that hypnotherapists are properly skilled and accredited and hold to the strictest professional and ethical procedures. The techniques used by professionals to make constructive suggestions to your unconscious are entirely distinct from the ones used for memory recall or age regression. So the use of hypnotherapy for effectively curbing the need to bite your nails will not result in unintended memories or behaviors.

CONCLUSION: Fingernail chewing is a drive like any other, and relying on determination by itself is typically not enough to give up the behavior. Using hypnotherapy or hypnosis CDs and all other resources available will more likely result in a successful, comfortable end to your nail biting.

The Initial Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder: Spot Them Early Posted By : Jean Littman

Filed under: Depression — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

Many bipolar sufferers are unaware that their condition exists. The initial symptoms of bipolar disorder, commonly known as manic depression, start to manifest during adolescence and can be triggered at any time. Fortunately this disorder, thought to be a chemical brain imbalance, can be treated very successfully. The main concern is to spot the initial symptoms of bipolar early, so that an accurate diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment started.

If someone in your circle of family and friends has bipolar disorder, then you would already know the effect it has on their daily lives. Contrary to popular belief, individuals suffering with bipolar disorder are not always depressed and morose. The very nature of bipolar means that wild mood swings occur moving from high to low in a short space of time. These mood swings can be quite difficult to distinguish.

The illness is highly likely to recur frequently, affecting a person for their entire lifetime. The best long-term treatment is achieved by fostering and maintaining a strong support group. This of course is totally dependent on being able to spot the initial symptoms of bipolar disorder in the first place.

How to spot depression.

Correctly identifying depression is a tricky exercise, and can baffle even the most experienced professional. One obvious sign of depression is a sad or anxious mood manifesting over an extended period. Another can be lack of motivation or desire to participate in activities which would normally be enjoyed by the person, for example hobbies, sex or social activities.

What constitutes a manic episode.

The most noticeable behavior is a euphoric mood and increased level of energy. These characteristics are quite evident and easily noticed. Other signs include over generosity, spending sprees, hypersexuality (increased sex drive), loss of concentration, and grandiose feelings of invincibility.

Symptoms of Psychosis

In serious cases of bipolar disorder, the associated extreme mood swings can progress into psychosis symptoms, including delusions and hallucinations. While others can recognize psychosis quite easily, the patient is often unaware of them.

Mixed Bipolar States

Sometimes a mixed state of a bipolar disorder occurs, where the sufferer simultaneously experiences depression and mania. Symptoms often include sleep deficiency, appetite changes and agitation. Patients with mixed bipolar states can be extremely depressed but still possess high energy levels.

Identifying Morbid Thoughts

One of the most feared bipolar symptoms for the loved ones supporting a bipolar sufferer is the appearance of potentially morbid thoughts. Any suspicion that a patient is thinking morbidly and contemplating suicide should be acted upon immediately. In such cases a 911 emergency call should be made as a standard preventative measure. Better to be on the safe side than suffer a tragic suicide.

If the true nature of a person’s condition is to be revealed, recognizing the initial symptoms of bipolar is vitally important. Improper diagnosis can lead to a prolonged lifetime of suffering. All too often a patient seeks medical advice when suffering from depression, but they do not think it important to disclose their manic episodes. This is mainly because they feel good, and connect their manic periods with happiness and a normal state.

Research and study has now heightened awareness of this condition. More and more people are becoming educated and can recognize the initial symptoms of bipolar disorder. Information and guidance is now readily available through quality resources on reputable websites and from local mental health clinics.

How lucky we are to live in an age where the debilitating nature of such a condition can be halted by identifying the initial symptoms of bipolar early, allowing patients and their loved ones to lead normal, productive and healthy lives.

Health Matters - Captain Mercury Posted By : Thomas Mayhew

In the dark reaching shadows of mercury poisoning, it can be hard to keep your chin up. While I was going through the period when my wife and I were trying to figure out what I had - after nearly a dozen Doctors had brought little to no help and in fact mostly discouragement with no diagnosis - we finally discoved a Doctor that knew what I had and precisely what to do about it.

We were thrilled with the fact that my acute condition was being brought under control and we had a long-term prognosis that was positive. Considering how incredibly sick I was, we weren’t under any illusions that it would be a quick process. My thought was that it took me years to get so ill and it would take me years to get well again.

So in our enthusiasm, we shared with our close friends the diagnosis. From that point on, my buddy called me Captain Mercury.

So Captain Mercury to the rescue. If my story will help you, I am thrilled. That is a prime motivator for me. It was so tough for me to figure out what I had. In fact, I got so ill that I could no longer properly process what the cause might be. Without my wife’s patient help, without the support of God, I absolutely would not have been able to last through those dark days and darker nights.

For forty days, I was not able to successfully digest so much as a cracker. That was after many days and more weeks of very poor digestive function. My physiology could have been viewed as a really bad train wreck. I was kept alive by Recharge and fresh veggie juices. Recharge is a sort off ‘healthy’ alternative to sports’ drinks. One of the reasons for drinking this type of drink was to replace the electrolytes I was losing via my dysfunctional intestinal tract.

What did I have? Chronic Mercury Poisoning of the Gut. From most Doctors’ perspectives, I had an outrageous case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Because of the effects of the severe IBS attacks, I required 4 to 6 liters of IV (intravenous) fluid probably a dozen times. A couple times, they were administered in foreign countries that might not be known for the standard of care we enjoy in America.

I was dealt a daily dose of dasterdly discouragement. But it didn’t keep me down. Whereas in 2005 I didn’t know if I was going to live or die from one day to another, now I just keep Oregano Tea and Charcoal in my bag and life is much more normal. Whereas a digestive setback would cost me weeks to get back on track, now it takes only days. I still have a couple years to go at my current rate of treatment, but things are looking very bright now. I can do things today that I couldn’t dream of doing a couple years ago. The only thing I could dream of doing back then involved basic survival and staying positive.

To conclude, given what I have gone through and that I successfully played ding dong ditch on death’s door, I believe you can make it through whatever you may be facing. You need to set out to find the cause of your problem. You may need a champion to fight for you. You certainly need loved ones praying for you. God can help you. I am firmly convinced of this great truth.

Have You Been Seeking A Cure For Anxiety Attacks? Posted By : Terry Edwards

Filed under: Depression — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

Believe it or not, everyone suffers anxiety attacks from time-to-time, because this is actually a normal physical response of our body to potential danger, often called the fight-or-flight reflex. When this happens, our respiration and heart rate increases, deliver greater volumes of blood to our muscles, and we become hyper-sensitive to our surroundings.

It’s also a perfectly normal emotional response for example, when preparing to take a test, giving a speech, etc., which we sometimes refer to as having “butterflies” in our stomachs. If that’s the case, then why do we need a cure for anxiety attacks in the first place?

For those suffering from what are called anxiety or panic disorders, these normal responses are being artificially triggered, often through an existing medical condition such as Thyroid Disorder or Diabetes. In other cases, medications like steroids, hormones and decongestants can also trigger or manifest symptoms of anxiety. Therefore it’s important to consult with a physician to rule out these types of issues and treating anxiety attacks as a symptom of an emergent medical problem rather than a disorder.

What’s left are several major types of anxiety disorders which, while not curable, may be successfully treated in a number of ways, ensuring good quality of life for the patient. Medications for the treatment of the various anxiety and panic disorders should be discussed with your primary caregiver and monitored closely. Meanwhile, there are a number of non-medication related steps you may take to reduce the frequency and severity of your panic attacks.

Regular exercise, a healthy diet and plenty of sleep are vital to controlling anxiety as are the reduction or elimination of caffeine and alcohol. Routine meditation and physical relaxation techniques have also been shown to reduce the frequency anxiety attacks caused by stress. The use of “over-the-counter” medications should also be discussed with your doctor as these can trigger anxiety attacks as well.

Another non-medication option for controlling anxiety is through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy or CBT. Usually taking 12 to 20 weeks of individual and group therapy sessions, CBT is designed to help you change maladaptive thinking patterns and behaviors.

Most importantly of all, establish a good support system with family and friends who are willing to learn about, understand and help you to avoid the emotional and physical triggers causing your anxiety attacks. While certainly not a cure, you needn’t allow anxiety attacks to control your life!

Getting overly anxious over Anxiety Depression? It’s only one of the types… Posted By : niemands

Filed under: Depression — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

The type of depression that has actually been proven to be quite common among people is anxiety depression, which is actually characterized by the state of being overly anxious about things. Anxiety, a supposedly normal behavior that’ll actually help a person adjust more to a certain stressful activity like first date jitters or a grueling exam the following day. Anxiety actually helps you get psyched up towards facing certain “difficult situations”; anxiety therefore is actually a good thing.

Anxiety depression however, is simply the opposite, not to be easily dismissed as a “case of the nerves”; Anxiety depression is an illness that can be caused from the biological makeup of an individual, or in other words, a hereditary illness.

There are actually various types of Anxiety depression, each having its own unique characteristics. Take for example Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD, this kind of Anxiety depression is a lot more complicated than the average Anxiety depression, in spite of possibly being a day-to-day habit for those who suffer this kind of Anxiety depression.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually makes the individual quite more paranoid than usual, anxiety attacks are more frequent, even absurd at times. They can even be anxious even when there’s no apparent reason that calls for them to behave in such a way. People suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually shows a lot of symptoms, from lack of sleep, to being unable to relax, getting tired easily, cannot concentrate on what they’re doing and even suffering from depression. This kind of Anxiety depression is still curable; just a little work will actually do the trick.

A lot of people who are exerting too much of their brain power usually exhaust not only their physical strength when engaging in various multi-tasking activities, they also tend to over extend their brains up to the point when it plainly needs some good old time for relaxation.

A lot of busy people who seem to cannot fathom the idea of relaxing and taking time of from work, as well as their worries, tend to actually start having nervous breakdowns, anxiety depression and all sorts of mental illnesses that can cause a person’s sanity to go haywire, fortunately, if you’re one of those poor unfortunate ones who are unable to distress and is constantly worried and fussing over things, there are actually available cures and various treatments for treating anxiety depression.

Anxiety depression is actually characterized by all sorts of irregularities and erratic behavior from the person who is suffering from it, this is usuallu due to certain stress triggers that may tend to easily cause a person undue jitters and stress. Also, a lot of people who tend to get easily nervous over stressful activities are actually prone to having anxiety depression, its just a matter of being strong-willed when it comes to facing difficult and stress-prone activities.

It may be pretty hard to overcome at first, but trying to be calm and cool in times of extreme pressure is what’ll actually save your mental health from going totally downward spiral.

When it comes to effectively curing one’s self from a mental illness, one must keep in mind that you have to be actually honest with yourself and assess what kind of depression or mental illness you actually have, go to reputable psychiatrist to get yourself diagnosed correctly as well as be able to get the right depression treatment for yourself.

Here are the various types of depression:

Manic or Bipolar depression - characterized by sudden and extreme changes in one’s mood wherein one minute he or she is in an elevated state of euphoria while the

next minute (day or week) he or she is feeling to be in a personal hell.

Postpartum depression - characterized by a prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness by a new mother wherein physical stress during child birth, an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby can be just some of the possible factors why some new mother go through this.

Dysthimia - characterized by a slight similarity with depression, although this time, it’s been proven to be a lot less severe, but of course with any case, should be treated immediately.

Cyclothemia - characterized by a slight similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness may occasionally suffer from severe changes in one’s moods.

Seasonal Affective Disorder - characterized by falling in a rut only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall) studies however, prove that more people

actually fall in to a rut more during the Winter and Fall seasons and lastly, Mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in just a short time.

Consult a reputable cognitive behavior therapist who’ll help give the individual the therapy that he or she needs to help him or her loosen up, also prescribed medicines are sort of a must to help these individuals battle anxiety attacks, help them calm down and relax.
