Is Liposuction A Means To Lose Weight? Posted By :

Filed under: Weight Loss — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

One of the most prevalent methods of weight loss that is not associated with good diet or exercise is liposuction. This treatment is generally performed to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat that have become resistant to removal by any other method. Liposuction is also used to sculpt areas of the body such as the tummy, thighs, buttocks and upper arms to give them a more uniform and healthy appearance.

The majority of responsible cosmetic surgeons make it a point to stress to their patients that liposuction is not meant as a weight loss medium but rather as a means to sculpt body areas normally resistant to other ways of weight loss. The younger the patient is the more quickly the healing times will be as the skin needs to have a good amount of elasticity in it to tighten over the liposuctioned areas properly. Liposuction should be looked at as more of a sculpting tool after diet and exercise have gone as far with your body as possible. Because some areas of the body react at different rates to exercise, some sculpting of these areas may be necessary from time to time.

Procedures called large-volume liposuction involve the removal of more than five liters of fat from the body and in many cases patients lose pounds of weight from the affected areas. This has promoted the use of liposuction as a quick-fix way to lose weight - at least from the areas of the body that most people perceive as being a problem. Many people who seek out liposuction as a means to lose weight have some medical issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Having these sorts of conditions can make it very risky to have any sort of operation - let alone one as invasive to the body as liposuction.

The best ways to lose weight have always been the traditional diet and exercise regimens designed to allow your body to acclimatize itself to the weight coming off, and to let your skin form to your shrinking body at its own pace. When people try to rush weight loss through liposuction procedures, the skin can take a long time to get its elasticity back. Taking vitamin E or using a vitamin E enhanced cream can help with the process but it’s still a problem.

If liposuction is to be used as a means to remove some weight, it should really only be used to sculpt the areas of the body that have stubborn areas of fat. Many members of the medical profession have found that when used properly and within moderation, liposuction is a very important tool to help their patients look and feel their best. When it’s used improperly or by untrained technicians, the liposuction can have disastrous and even deadly consequences. It’s important that you check the credentials of any liposuction technician thoroughly before beginning any treatment. It only makes good common sense to ensure that you have a competent professional working on your body. Remember though, the best way to lose weight is not through liposuction. Simple diet control and moderate amounts of exercise will have more stable and long-term results.

Successful Weight Loss: Ask For What You Want Posted By : wendy hearn

Filed under: Weight Loss — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

What will it take for you to achieve the weight loss and health you really want? One of the things which prevents people losing weight is they don’t believe they can have what they want. Or even, as individuals, they don’t deserve what they want, they generally don’t ask for it. You’re not likely to get what you want until firstly, you determine what this is and then ask for it. There’s a saying ‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’. This holds true for many things in life and definitely plays a big part in your journey to successful weight loss.

When I start working with individuals to lose weight, I hear mainly all the things they don’t want. One of the first steps is to turn this into what they do want.

“I’m quite happy to exercise more, but I don’t enjoy doing it on my own.”

“I’ve heard what you don’t want, that you don’t want to exercise on your own, now tell me what you do want.”

“I want someone to exercise with”

“Great, now you know what you want, we can work on achieving that.”

Although this may not seem much of a difference, the main shift is that when you determine what you want, you start to look for ways to make this to happen. Whereas, when you’re focusing on what you don’t want, you’re more likely to get stuck.

“Let’s be more specific. Which particular area of exercising do you want to do more of?”

“I’d like to take one step aerobic class regularly each week.”

“What day would this be?”

“Tuesday or Thursday at 7pm, so I’ll ask a friend to come with me.”

“Which friend are you going to ask?”

“Oh, I hadn’t thought of that?”

The more specific you are in asking for what you want, the more chance you have of achieving it.

“So, who specifically do you want to join you at the step aerobic class.”

“I could ask Helen.”

“Great, who else?”

“Mmm, I’ll have a think.”

“The more choices you allow yourself, the easier it’s going to be to find someone. I suggest you come up with a list of 10 people to ask.”

I really encourage you to ask as specifically as you can for what you want. My suggestion is that you make a list of all the things you say you don’t want with regard to your weight and health. Now, looking at each item, turn it around and write next to it what you don’t want. Then, consider what you need to ask for specifically, to make this happen. Although this process appears to be simple, many people don’t find it easy. Defining what you really want and asking for it can be challenging. You may want to have some support and encouragement with this process, by working with a coach.

Asking for what you want is a life skill and it requires practice. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Like most things, the first step is the hardest. I encourage you to ask for what you want in the situations you feel most comfortable with as a starting point. When you feel ready, then progress steadily to situations which are more difficult for you.

What I want is for you to ask for what you want.

Apple Patch Diet Facts Posted By : T. Pierce

Filed under: Weight Loss — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

Weight loss is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. Popular non-invasive techniques for weight loss include diets, weight loss pills, herbal diets and saunas. Although, each of the above mentioned techniques have their pros and cons and the effectiveness of techniques vary from person to person, none of the techniques mentioned so far are free from their side effects. The latest in weight loss techniques is the Apple Patch Diet. The Apple Patch Diet involves applying a simple patch (similar to a nicotine patch); the patch has propriety herbal ingredients that are designed to facilitate weight loss naturally.

Compared to weight loss pills, a person does not experience common side effects like indigestion, nausea and diarrhea and the Apple Patch Diet has no major side effects whatsoever. The apple patch diet is a purely natural patch and has three key ingredients (that are all natural extracts). The three key ingredients are Garcinia Cambogia extract (a member of the pumpkin family), Guarana extract (A South American shrub) and Fucus Vesiculosus (a brown seaweed or algae). All three extracts mentioned above have known scientific significance and can lead to or facilitate weight loss.

As is the case with almost all the herbal supplements and weight loss pills available today; there is no conclusive scientific study that can attribute weight loss to ingredients like Garcinia extracts, but the truth is that many people have reported significant weight loss due to the Apple Patch Diet. Unlike other forms of weight loss, the apple patch diet requires a person to apply a single patch that has to be changed every 3 days. Unlike weight loss pills, the apple patch diet directly administers the herbal ingredients via the skin and the transdermal patch has very little or no side effects at all.

Unlike other herbal weight loss products, the effects of each of the 3 key ingredients have been scientifically studied and documented. For example, Garcinia extracts contain a substance known as hydroxycitric acid (HCA). HCA trials on animals have been very promising and its weight loss capabilities have been tested and proven on animals. Since Garcinia is a common vegetable/fruit in Asia and the India, it is safe for human consumption and till date no serious side effects have been reported.

Guarana extracts have nearly 2 times more caffeine compared to coffee beans, Guarana extracts are actively used by Brazilians as a food and beverage additive. Apart from increasing alertness and reducing fatigue, Gurana extracts are also believed to be potent diet suppressants. Like most caffeine based diet suppressants, excessive consumption can lead to irritation, restlessness and sleeplessness, it is thus ideal to receive Gurana extracts via transdermal patches.

Fucus Vesiculosus is rich in Iodine and is an excellent stimulant of the thyroid gland. Scientific studies have proven that Fucus Vesiculosus is a viable source of Iodine; Fucus Vesiculosus extracts are known to increase energy levels and are also ideal for inducing weight loss.

A Three Way Assault On Permanent Weight Loss Posted By : Chris Kolb

Filed under: Weight Loss — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

The American market nowadays is flooded with more and more ‘miracle’ weight loss pills claiming that you can stuff your face, take their pill, and watch the pounds melt away from your body. In reality, the only thing most diet pills do for your body is set you up for some serious heart problems down the road.

Although there are a few diet pills that do contribute to weight loss, they are extremely ineffective because they allow you to continue the eating habits that caused your weight problems in the first place. As soon as you discontinue the pills, your weight will shoot right back to where it was when you started.

So if these miracle pills are not the answer, then what is?

There are three key areas to focus on in order to achieve permanent weight loss: you must learn to burn calories, build your metabolism, and gain control of your eating. Each of these things builds on one another allowing you to attack your weight problem and achieve a healthy weight.

The first part of this triangle is fairly straight forward - As I’m sure everyone knows, In order to lose weight, you need to burn calories. The simplest way to do this is to perform a cardio exercise on a daily basis. A cardio exercise can include anything from walking to jogging, to playing tennis or swimming; the more intense the cardio exercise, the more calories burned.

The next step in achieving permanent weight loss is to build up your body’s metabolism. Your metabolism is the amount of calories your body burns a day, and is based off of your body-weight. So not surprisingly, if you lose a huge amount of weight, your body will react by using a lot less energy every day; this means that when you are done losing weight, you will not be able to eat nearly as much if you want to maintain your new bodyweight.

Luckily, there is a solution to this problem: strength training. Strength training builds muscle, and that muscle uses five times the calories as fat. Performing strength training exercises three to four days a week will allow you to build muscle without overtraining your body.

Regardless of how well you do the other two parts, gaining control of your eating remains the keystone to this attack. No matter what some pills claim, you can not lose weight unless you learn to control your eating. Weight loss is a numbers gain, so the key to losing weight is to never eat over your metabolic rate (the amount of calories you burn that day). You need to throw out all those empty calories and junk food, and start eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. You also need to control any binge eating habits you have - try not to link emotions with food.

Teenagers & AIDS: Do They Know Enough? Posted By : Ken Brower-10301

Filed under: Medicine — webmaster @ 12:13 pm

In reviewing recent public health data, AIDS incidence and prevalence among teenagers and young adults in the U.S. is still consistently high and disturbing.

One reason for this is that, according to some studies, the average age of sexual initiation has gone lower, sometimes as young as 13 to 15 years old. This would translate that teenagers entering high school have already lost their virginity and may have been engaging in active sexual life. This also places the need of implementing a sexual education especially designed for younger minds, so as to prevent the establishment and practice of reckless and unsafe sex early on. And even if there is a sex education course in place, most of them possess some significant flaws, like the emphasis on just one method of birth control and the exclusion of homosexuality from discussion. The stigma associated with being gay is still quite prevalent in schools and those that feel inclined toward it are pressured to keep it a secret, thereby missing out on vital information needed to protect themselves while enjoying a healthy sex life later on.

Another probable cause for prevalent HIV transmission among teenagers is the lack of adequate awareness about it. Most students simply does not concern themselves with AIDS prevention, barely possessing knowledge on the risk factors associated with it. Most would probably contend that condom use is an effective way to prevent HIV infection. What they don’t realize that this is only partially true. Emphasis should be place on the proper handling and use of the condom they use to achieve significant efficacy as a birth control and against any type of sexually transmitted diseases. An example of this is the instance that although demonstrations are made on how to put on a condom, many still don’t get it right when it comes to the real thing.

The teenage mind might also be filled with several misconceptions when it comes to AIDS.

Some may think that you cannot get AIDS through oral sex. Though HIV transmission is admittedly lower, it can still infect though mouth to genital contact. The virus, which is found in the seminal fluid and secretions from the vagina, can easily transmit to the mucous membrane of the mouth, especially if there is a break in the skin or there are open sores. One way to address this misconception is promoting the use of condom every time you agree to please your sex partner through your mouth and tongue. There are several types of condoms suited for this kind of activity, like the Durex Natural Feeling Non-Lubricated condom, used with any water-based lubricant of choice or several flavored varieties that disguise latex taste found in any common condom variety.

Then there are those who engage in anal sex, who think that any kind of condom will do. Keep in mind that the rectum is significantly drier and rougher compared to the vagina and that engaging in anal sex would need a thicker condom and lots and lots of choice water-based lubricant. Petroleum-based and oil-based ones are simply not advisable, as they make condoms prone to breakage.

But probably one of the more disturbing aspects of teenage behavior is their increasing apathy toward HIV, thinking that they have no risk of getting it and that those infected with the virus does not proceed to die of AIDS. There are numerous medications that extend the life of an HIV-positive person, true, but there is no cure for it. AIDS still kills, may it be sooner or later. This is one reason why the practice of safe sex needs to instilled into the minds of teenagers as early as possible and let them know that apart from abstinence and fidelity, they also have the options of using protective devices such as a male condom.
